A Difference
The title of the page comes from a quote by William James:
"Act as if what you do makes a difference.  It does."

I usually have a theme for the quotes on a page, but I seem to have wandered
a little, because these quotes wound up going in several directions.  This may
be because the dogwoods, azaleas and wisteria are blooming and it's hard
to concentrate on an indoor activity when Spring is calling me outside!
If Spring hasn't arrived in your part of the world yet, I hope it will
come soon.  And stay awhile.

If you want to build a ship, don’t assign people tasks, but rather teach them
to long for the endless immensity of the sea.
-- Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I'm always ready to learn, although I don't always like being taught.
-- Winston Churchill
God respects me when I work and loves me when I sing.
-- Rabindranath Tagore
You have not lived a perfect day unless you have done something for
someone who will never be able to repay you.

Completed in Norway in 1912, the whaling ship Globe IV (later known as Garðar BA
64
) had both traditional sails and a steam engine and the hull was reinforced to
break through icy seas.  Over the years, it was sold to a number of different
countries before going to Iceland after World War II and used as a fishing vessel.
From
AtlasObscura:  "After decades of faithful service to its bevy of owners,
Garðar BA 64 was finally deemed unsafe for service in 1981 and the old ship was
run aground in Skápadalur Valley [Iceland] where it remains to this day, falling
apart bit by bit.  It is now a popular site for photographers."
If you can’t find your inspiration by walking around the block one time,
go around two times...but never three.
-- Robert Motherwell
We don't all think alike, but we can all do good.  -- P.T. Barnum
When we cast our bread upon the waters, we can presume that someone
downstream, whose face we will never know, will benefit from our action,
as we who are downstream from another, will profit from the grantor's gift.
-- Maya Angelou
A mature person is one who is able to be objective even when stirred emotionally,
who has learned that there is both good and bad in all people and who walks
humbly and deals charitably with the circumstances of life, knowing that in this
world no one is all-knowing and, therefore, all of us need both love and charity.
-- Eleanor Roosevelt
It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.
-- Henry David Thoreau
