Lost in the Crowd |
Rex makes his way along St. Charles Avenue, approaching Canal Street, in the 1930's. The old St. Charles Hotel (in its 3rd incarnation) can be seen behind him. These days there are barricades along a parade route and the police do an excellent job of keeping people behind them. That doesn't appear to be the case in this photo from the 1930's. Even the band is lost in the crowd, the only thing you can see are the tubas. It must have been very slow going for the krewes in those days! |
