These photos are as interesting for the background as they are for the floats featured in them. So many stores on Canal Street that - in the immortal words of Benny Grunch and the Bunch - "ain't dere no more." A couple of these remain, but for the most part, they only exist in our collective memory: McCrory's, Allen's, Bakers, Miller-Wohl, Woolworth's, Mayfair, W. T. Grant, Burts, Marks Isaacs, Holmes, Lords, Rubenstein's, Imperial. It's quite a stroll down memory lane. -- Nancy |
